Karl Marx had an obsessive hatred of the independent, un-dominated, self-directing and often aloof and disrespectful middle-class. In his Communist Manifesto he called for not only the overthrowing, but the actual annihilation of the bourgeoisie. His whole manifesto is an incitement for the proletariat, i.e., the poorer classes, the "workers", to rise up and violently overthrow the whole bourgeois class and take whatever is theirs.
