Irrational Fear is the replacement for reality, rationality, critical thinking, and - most especially - proper belief and faith in God.

When and where that doesn't come first, anxiety and worry takes off and grows. It can become emotionally and functionally crippling. It may be true that clinical anxiety and depression have always existed in humankind, but it is also true that these maladies are multiplied and magnified in direct proportion to how belief and faith in God are weakened, and they are at their worst when faith and belief in God is absent.
