Today is Candlemass, when the light of Christ was brought into the Temple. It is the purification of the Blessed Virgin and the Presentation of the Baby Jesus, when first born sons were "bought back" from God with the sacrifice of a lamb, or if they couldn't afford a lamb, then two doves.
