Throughout the cold war years following WWII the most dreaded menace to world peace and national sovereignty was the Soviet Union. At the end of the war Western nations, lead by the USA, Britain and France, just went back to the normalcy of peace; but the Soviets didn't do that. Russian military occupations after the war never ended. Whatever lands the Soviet forces occupied at the end of the war were taken over and ruled as puppet states by the Soviet Union.
