We Catholics who were born in the '40s, formed in the '50s and came of age in the '60s learned our faith in the pre-Vatican II Latin Mass years. The Post Vatican II changes in the Divine Liturgy were a shock to us, to put it as mildly as it can be put. But, we thought, as time went on, it was "only" Liturgy. We could and we would adapt; the faith itself had not changed. That's what we thought; that's what we were led to believe; and that was before we became aware of what we were being lead away from, and toward, and who was really doing the leading. For some of us, Truth dawns too slowly, and we grow old before wise.
