Scoffers who consider themselves to be "Enlightened" and "Modern" used to love to ridicule the Genesis six day story of creation and have another good collective laugh at what they hold to be the silliness of Scripture. Looking at the sequence of the Genesis days of creation, they scoffed at the story because of their preconception of a sunrise and a sunset being the preordained measurement of a day. What they fail to take into account is the interpretation of the Hebrew word for a day, which is Yom, meaning quite simply a 24 hour period of time, which stands alone and does not depend on the sun or the moon. Could it be that the scoffers are not so enlightened and not so modern?
