What is Liberty? It is a state of being free of restrictions imposed by authority on behavior, belief, relationships, decisions, way of life, etc. Human liberty is created by God, because God loves man, and made man to love God. But love is, at its root, a decision, which must be freely made, or it is not love. That is the first liberty. If man is free to love, man is equally free to not love. What man has from God is unrequited love; what God asks in return is the unrequited love of man. Therein lies the birth of liberty. Love not freely given is not love; it is an act; a charade.
