It takes all-powerful Political Party machinations, yes, but elections today - like legal justice today - takes big money.

Once upon a time in America, the richest men in the richest nation in the world bequeathed enormous wealth to the public good, building or enlarging hospitals, libraries, schools, universities, zoos, public parks, gardens and fountains. Even the most autocratic among them spent far more money for the public good than for growing their own business autocracy, buying political favor or enhancing anyone else's political power. Not a hundred percent of them, but close.
