On the Inner Spiritual Soldier vs the Physical Battle Soldier

The work of the national soldier is to kill people, break things and vanquish national enemies. How does that comport with waging Spiritual Warfare?

I was born 81 years ago in Detroit Michigan. When I was 17 I joined the army for the first of what turned out to be two consecutive three-year hitches. My initial admittedly juvenile motivation was mostly adventure and macho visions of being a soldier, and getting away from an unhappy broken home and broken family situation.
