Military triangulating, as applied back in my day, involved properly orienting a map and then aligning vectors on it to where they intersected at a specific location on the map. This was before GPS. An RDF (Radio Direction Finding) receiver would lock onto a signal and lay down the first vector, and then the RDF radio would move, and shoot that same signal again, laying down another vector. Two vectors could do it; three was better. If it was a bad guy signal, you could call in an artillery or air strike and then listen to the signal go quiet.
