First of all, why does everyone hate the bourgeoisie?

It's really a matter of jealousy and contempt on the part of the rich, and class-envy on the part of the poor.

The bourgeoisie are the "burghers" of ancient times, and the city dwellers of modern times. What they are not is noble, royal or super-rich; nor are they peasants or farmers who work the land.
