Our argument against public despair, hopelessness and pessimism re the future. May 22, 2009 |
Subscribers NewsletterAgainst Despair.Vic Biorseth, Friday, May 22, 2009 As much as I hate popularity polls, I do pay attention to them, sometimes. Particularly when multiple ones seem to back each other up, and one or more of them are of the more reputable variety. And, what the polls seem to be saying today involves a growing sense of despair in our youth regarding the future of the planet earth, and the continuance of human civilization as we all know it. It seems that a majority of children today believe that the world as we know it will come to an end in their lifetime. And, of course, it very well might, since no one knows the hour nor the day; however, as this sense of hopelessness about our future begins to permeate the conscious thought of the larger society it begins to change the behavior of our children and to fill them with a sense of dread and hopelessness about their own future. Public (actually, government) education inculcates in young minds the Left-sponsored myths of man-caused environmental doom from many sources. At the root of all of these evil sources are Capitalism, greed, exploitation, Big Oil, coal, gas, nuclear power and associated environmental threats, big industry, human-induced global warming, human-induced global cooling, soil, air and water pollution, unnecessary killing of whales and other creatures, and so on and so forth. And all of this comes under the popular title of capitalist raping of the planet for fun and profit. And that, of course, implies that the Socialist approach is somehow more environmentally friendly and might somehow save us all from capitalistic eco-doom. Cap’n Planet Algore’s An Inconvenient Truth movie depicting the pseudo-scientific predictions of what terrible things will happen to the earth if Republicans rather than Democrats are in charge of fixing the earth’s problems, is and has been required viewing in many if not most government schools. Children tend to believe what their teachers teach them. Government teachers today overwhelmingly endorse Democrat doomsayers like Cap’n Planet Algore. I have seen our pending capitalistic eco-doom on the History channel, on PBS, on the Weather channel, on the Discovery channel, and in numerous SLIMC sponsored crockumentaries. What are they telling us, and our youth? Sea levels are to rise some 247 feet, any minute now. New York city will be lost beneath the waves. The glaciers are melting, melting, and all that water will flow into the sea. Ignored are all the glaciers elsewhere that are growing. The permafrost is melting, melting and all that new water will somehow find a quick path to the sea, rather than simply forming swamps and bogs and staying right where it is. Ignored are the areas where the permafrost is not melting, but maybe even deepening and growing in area. The beach next door is washing away, washing away, but let’s not look at the other ones that are building up. My favorite one is that the polar ice caps are melting, melting, and that particular eco-disaster alone will cause New York to vanish beneath the waves. Floating ice is made out of water, and it weighs the same as the water beneath it. It floats by displacing water. If it melts, the water level changes not one iota. Fill a jar with water, put a large ice cube in it, put a lid on it so water cannot evaporate, mark the water level and put it on the window sill. Come back later, after the ice cube has melted, and observe the water level relative to the mark. It will not have changed. If the polar ice caps melt completely, New York will still be New York, just as it was before. Our children don’t know that. Or, a majority of them don’t know that. This is the real problem regarding our future. Not the ecology and the environment and the supposedly purely capitalist threats to them. Go to the Eco-Nazi Front page to see the various eco-lies told in the name of the furtherance of the Socialist agenda. It’s all made up out of nothing. It is just another fad, and social trend, fed by nothing more than herd instinct, and by scientism, certainly not by any real science. See the Argument Against Fads page for a description of the past fads upon which this particular fad is based, and upon which it feeds. This particular scientistic fad, embraced by celebritwittery and show-biz, officially taught in schools, pushed by the Democrat Party, not resisted by the Republican Party, sows the seeds of public despair, hopelessness and pessimism regarding the future. Despair is a mortal sin, the opposite of the virtue of hope; it is a sin unto the death of the soul, a repudiation and rejection of God’s grace. Woe to that man who leads another into sin. We are all called to hope, not to despair. Resist the trend; oppose the pseudo-science; teach your children to look forward to a golden future rather than the currently popular and fashionable herd-instinct toward doom. Teach your children about God. The government won't do it. Respond to this article at the link below : This article and comments may be found on the web site at the link below : |
