Or does it?Vic Biorseth, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 Once again, Culture = Religion + Politics.A commonly held moral code is what forms a distinct and identifiable People, and a distinct and identifiable People is what forms a Nation. Until the Protestant Reformation, all of Western Civilization was Roman Catholic. There was always a tension between Popes and Kings; generally, Popes crowned Kings, but stayed out of civil politics other than to advise and consent or admonish. Sometimes Kings tried to crown or somehow control Popes, but none dared to try to control the religion itself. Until Luther.
