Kamala Harris and the Weather Underground

Then-San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris had the opportunity to prosecute Weather Underground terrorists for the murder of police Sergeant Brian V. McDonnell. But no indictment was ever brought. She now campaigns as a “tough prosecutor.”
“There are irrefutable and compelling reasons to believe that Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn ... are largely responsible for the bombing of Park Police Station,” a letter from the police union said at the time.
San Francisco Police Sergeant Brian V. McDonnell suffered two days in the hospital before dying from a bomb packed with heavy metal staples. One staple went through his eye.
The bombing was listed by the FBI as the work of the Weather Underground, but Ayers and Dohrn, two of its top members, never claimed credit for the blast. They have tried to insist over the years that their bombs never hurt or killed anyone, except their own members. The bomb that killed three of their own members in a New York townhouse was an anti-personnel device intended for an Army dance at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Mark Rudd, another member of the Weather Underground, said he was in favor of planting the bomb, saying that he wanted “this country to have a taste of what it had been dishing out daily in Southeast Asia…”
What the U.S. had been trying to do was prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam.
The consistent testimony of former FBI informant Larry Grathwohl, who participated in meetings with Ayers, has been that Ayers told him that Dohrn planted the Park Station bomb. He passed away on July 18, 2013.
My group America’s Survival brought this case to the public’s attention, including at news conferences at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and in San Francisco, as part of our “Justice for Victims of Weather Underground Terrorism” project.
We released the letter from the San Francisco Police Officers Association (SFPOA).
Jim Pera, a retired San Francisco police officer who worked with McDonnell and was one of the first on the scene of the bombing, described the devastating effect of the blast.
The police chief at the time, Heather Fong, was quoted as saying in a local outlet, SFGate, that there was an “active investigation” into the bombing and that the authorities, a clear reference to DA Kamala Harris and the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., were “ready to make a move soon…”
The article ran under the headline, “Police officers told to zip lips on bombing.”
The article stated that SFPOA President Gary Delagnes confirmed that his union got a call from federal investigators telling them they had an “active investigation and should not be commenting on the case.”
But the “active investigation” went nowhere under Eric Holder, who served as Attorney General from February 2009 to April 2015, and Kamala Harris, who served as District Attorney in San Francisco from 2004-2010.
Ayers and Dohrn backed Obama for the presidency in 2008.
The allegations against Ayers and Dohrn came from Larry Grathwohl, a Vietnam veteran who wrote the 1976 book, Bringing Down America, about his former “comrades” in the Weather Underground, a communist terrorist group active in the United States.
Declassified intelligence information demonstrates links between the Weather Underground terrorist movement and the Communist Party USA and the intelligence services of Cuba and the Soviet Union. Weather Underground terrorist Kathy Boudin traveled to the old Soviet Union. Her father, Leonard Boudin, was a member of the Communist Party and registered Cuban agent.
We have a copy of Cuban Communist DGI Official Julian Rizo’s Speech to the Weather Underground terrorists. Rizo told them, “You come from a society that must be destroyed. It’s your job to destroy that society.”
Larry had come back from the Vietnam War only to find that he had to do battle with communists in the United States. He helped the Cincinnati police and the FBI do just that, as an informant in the group.
Grathwohl had evidence, presented to a grand jury and the U.S. Senate, that Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn were involved in the 1970 bombing murder of San Francisco Police Sergeant McDonnell.
The Biennial Report (2007-2008) of the California Department of Justice reported that “In 2000, the SFPD [San Francisco Police Department] reopened its investigation into the bombing of the Park Police Station and requested investigative assistance from the DOJ. The DOJ’s Bureau of Forensic Services was also assigned to identify a latent print collected from the original crime scene.”
However, at a June 28, 2011, National Press Club conference, Grathwohl discussed how the “active investigation” into the 1970 Park Station bombing murder of Sgt. Brian V. McDonnell was turned inactive by the Obama/Holder Administration.
Dohrn, perhaps more notorious than Ayers, had praised the mass murdering psychopath Charles Manson as a true “revolutionary.” Manson had taken a group of young people, subjected them to heavy drug use, and ordered them to commit murder. This modus operandi was evident in the activities of the Weather Underground itself, whose members used illegal drugs, practiced group sex and homosexuality, and engaged in violence and murder. The Weather Underground helped LSD advocate Timothy Leary escape from a federal prison in September 1970
At the time, I noted in a press release that when Holder’s Justice Department warned the police not to say anything because it might jeopardize an active investigation, it was “just a ruse, a con job, in order to get the police to stop talking about the need to bring Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn to justice.”
The cover-up extended from Heather Fong to her close associate DA Kamala Harris and then to Eric Holder. They were implicated in the effort to “gag” the police union and peddled the disinformation that indictments would be forthcoming.
Holder was involved in the Clinton Administration pardons of members of the Weather Underground and Puerto Rican FALN terrorist group. Fong joined the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the Secretary’s Senior Counselor for law enforcement on March 1, 2021. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appointed Fong as the Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office for State & Local Law Enforcement (OSLLE) on May 21, 2021. On July 31, 2023, he appointed her as the Assistant Secretary of OSLLE and she continues to serve in both roles.
Dave Bowman, retired San Francisco Police Inspector, delivered a letter personally to the home of Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers in Chicago which said, in part, “This is to remind you once again that there is no statute of limitations for murder in the State of California. Many of us, and also the members of USA Survival, will continue to remind you until the time comes when the official murder charge is filed and the handcuffs are put on you.”
Grathwohl’s remarks, “White Reds Exploiting Blacks: The Weather Underground, Barack Obama, and the Fundamental Transformation of the United States,” were delivered to an America’s Survival, Inc. conference on July 19, 2012. He describes Weather Underground involvement in bombings, terrorist training, and contacts with hostile intelligence services.
One might think that a case as old as the McDonnell killing would never be solved. But those familiar with real-life crime shows, such as “Forensic Files,” know that law enforcement authorities don’t like to give up, and that advances in forensic science have greatly improved the ability to solve the “cold cases.”
To prove the point, in 2007, members of the Black Liberation Army (BLA) were indicted for the 1971 killing of another San Francisco Police Sergeant, John Young. He was shot and killed inside the Ingleside District Police Station.
The Officer Down Memorial Page notes, “The Black Liberation Army was a violent, radical group that attempted to fight for independence from the United States government in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The BLA was responsible for the murders of more than 10 police officers around the country. They were also responsible for violent attacks around the country that left many police officers wounded.”
The BLA worked with the Weather Underground. In fact, the Weather Underground and the BLA in 1981 tried to rob a Brinks truck and killed three law enforcement officers in Rockland County, New York. Weather Underground members Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert went to prison for their roles in the assault, while their “comrades,” Ayers and Dohrn, raised their child, Chesa Boudin. Dohrn was jailed for seven months for refusing to cooperate with a federal grand jury investigating the murders.
The Weather Underground armored-car robbery left two Nyack, New York police officers — Officer Waverly Brown and Sergeant Ed O’Grady — mortally wounded. In addition, the Brinks armoredcar driver, Peter Paige, was also shot to death by the Weathermen.
Chesa Boudin would grow up and live in Venezuela and become a self-described “foreign policy adviser” to Marxist ruler Hugo Chavez, implicated by the evidence in support for the Colombian FARC and Middle Eastern terror groups. By his own admission, Ayers traveled four times to Venezuela to lecture on “educational” issues. He was described by Venezuelan authorities during one appearance as a former leader of a “revolutionary and antiimperialist group” that “brought an armed struggle to the USA for more than 10 years from within the womb of the empire.”
Boudin was elected as the 29th District Attorney of San Francisco, served from January 8, 2020, to July 8, 2022, but was then recalled from office for his soft-on-crime policies.
When Kamala Harris ran for that office, she was described by the local media as the “first Indian American woman” in the U.S. to attempt to land a top prosecutor's job. Whatever her racial identity, she never pursued charges against members of the Weather Underground for the murder of Sgt. McDonnell.
Yet, the Ayers/Dohrn “Prairie Fire” Manifesto was dedicated in part to Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Democratic Party anti-war candidate Robert F. Kennedy. Sirhan Sirhan was a fanatical Palestinian who killed RFK because Kennedy was a supporter of Israel. The assassination occurred on the first anniversary of the Six Day War in which Israel defeated the armies of its Arab neighbors. What’s more, Sirhan’s diaries include the repeated phrases, “RFK must die,” and “long live communism.”
America’s Survival had analyzed the issue of Biden-Harris Attorney General Merrick Garland’s involvement in a court case that dropped terrorism charges against a communist by the name of Elizabeth Anna Duke. She was a member of a Weather Underground spin-off that specialized in terrorism and fake IDs. Duke was accused, among other things, of participating in the bombing of the U.S. Capitol in 1983. ThenJudge Merrick Garland found no problem with a magistrate who arbitrarily dropped the charges against her, at the request of Obama’s Justice Department.
Obama had been determined to get Merrick Garland on the Supreme Court but Garland had to settle for the Attorney General position under Biden/Harris. As a result, numerous communist terrorists remain on the loose. These include Ayers and Dohrn.
Under Obama, the Holder Justice Department had also granted early release to Marilyn Buck, a member of the Weather Underground and the Black Liberation Army. Buck had been serving a prison term in California for her involvement in a long list of terrorist crimes and was also a suspect in the murder of Sgt. Young. Ayers and Dohrn paid tribute to Buck after her death (in a memorial booklet).
