Note that the Catholic Church makes no definitive statement regarding either the validity of Evolutionary Theory or the validity of Creationism, one way or the other. Atheism, however, does indeed make not only definitive but belligerent and unreasoned statements about both.
The never proven, strictly faith-based, yet belligerently insisted upon "science" of Darwinism insists that Speciation occurs when the "fittest" among a species population in an environment successfully reproduce among themselves but can no longer successfully interbreed with the parent species. They become, therefore, a new species.
Note the plurality. The fittest among a population. This means a group of organisms (in this case humans) became so disassociated with their parents that they could no longer successfully breed with other humans from the parent species. But they could reproduce with each other. Those (plural) that are the fittest mate more successfully and produce like offspring inheriting the "fittest" qualities.
But, this is disproved by the fact that the DNA points back to an Adam and an Eve. One and only one of each.
Early American Darwinists of the Democrat Party of Secession from the USA over the black slavery issue were convinced that black people were not human, but of another inferior species. Not true; the DNA of black people traces back to the exact same one and only Adam and Eve. We are all of the same species and the same ancient parentage. We are all related. And we can all interbreed successfully. Interbreeding is quite impossible between different species.
It appears to be the same situation with animals and plants bred by man. Animal husbandry and agricultural science have never produced any new species. Different breeds of cows are still cows; different types of wheat are still wheat; etc., etc., etc. No new successfully reproducing species that can no longer reproduce with its parent species has ever been bred by man.
No speciation event has ever been observed by man, either in living human history or in the ancient fossil record.
None of Darwin's observations in the Galapagos Islands or anywhere else involved any new species. All the unsual finches were still finches; all the marine iguanas were still iguanas; etc., etc., etc. The same with all of his given human-bred speciation examples; woollier breeds of sheep were all still sheep, different breeds of dogs were all still dogs, etc.
Which brings us to the homo question. Why was Eve a woman, and why was Adam a man? What was the natural purpose of their female and male genitalia? (Hint: You are here reading these words.)
How would we all be here if the "normal" and "natural" sexual activity of human beings involved one sex only, or the achievement of any form of perverse non-reproductive sexual gratification?
We wouldn't be here.

I love this stuff. My youngest son is such a Darwin idolater that I have difficulty talking to him. Give me more of this, because he spouts a scientific mumbo-jumbo which I have a hard time disputing with any scientific facts. He is so arrogant in his "facts" that the discussions become fights.

You might point him to all of The Darwinism Pages, beginning with the Refuting Darwin's Origin of Species page. Despite universally taught formal education here and all over the world, none of Darwinism has ever been substantiated with any real scientific evidences.
Someone in the IDVolution website published a paper a while back showing how each of us human beings is a mutant. A mutation. And how all mutants have less genetic material than their parents, never more. Which points to becoming more simple, not more complex, over generations. And that, if correct, is in perfect alignment with the third law of thermodynamics, which says that things become more simple over time, not more complex.
Things break down.
Devolution, in other words, rather than Evolution.
Darwinism is little more than a very convenient, although fraudulent, foundational basis for the unprovable faith of atheism.

However, Pope Leo XIII in his 1880 encyclical Arcanum (On Christian Marriage - paragraph five) said: "We record what is to all known, and cannot be doubted by any, that God, on the sixth day of creation, having made man from the slime of the earth, and having breathed into his face the breath of life, gave him a companion, whom He miraculously took from the side of Adam when he was locked in sleep."
That sounds definitive to me.

The term Creationsim refers to the current day Science of Creationism, not to Genesis. Creationism seeks to gather empirical evidences with which to scientifically prove Genesis, something I believe is beyond the ability of man to do. It is Creation Science, not Genesis, that the Church makes no definitive statement on.
It would appear from Scripture that man arrived on the scene with spoken language. However, it may have been quite some time before man had written language, and the ability to record history, rather than to repeatedly recite it from memory to keep it alive and pass it on from generation to generation.
Quite some bit of time must have past after Creation before the sacred authors even attempted to write it all down. By that time, the two competing stories were Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, which were given equal weight by the inspired authors, and therefore both were included in Genesis.
The Church has made general definitive statements regarding the conclusions drawn from research into material beginnings, without getting into scientific specifics.
From Vatican I, on Faith and Reason:
9. Hence all faithful Christians are forbidden to defend as the legitimate conclusions of science those opinions which are known to be contrary to the doctrine of faith, particularly if they have been condemned by the Church; and furthermore they are absolutely bound to hold them to be errors which wear the deceptive appearance of truth. ...
10. Not only can faith and reason never be at odds with one another but they mutually support each other, for on the one hand right reason established the foundations of the faith and, illuminated by its light, develops the science of divine things; on the other hand, faith delivers reason from errors and protects it and furnishes it with knowledge of many kinds.
And on God the Creator:
On God the creator of all things
- If anyone denies the one true God, creator and lord of things visible and invisible: let him be anathema.
- If anyone is so bold as to assert that there exists nothing besides matter: let him be anathema.
- If anyone says that the substance or essence of God and that of all things are one and the same: let him be anathema.
- If anyone says that finite things, both corporal and spiritual, or at any rate, spiritual, emanated from the divine substance; or that the divine essence, by the manifestation and evolution of itself becomes all things or, finally, that God is a universal or indefinite being which by self-determination establishes the totality of things distinct in genera, species and individuals: let him be anathema.
- If anyone does not confess that the world and all things which are contained in it, both spiritual and material, were produced, according to their whole substance, out of nothing by God; or holds that God did not create by his will free from all necessity, but as necessarily as he necessarily loves himself; or denies that the world was created for the glory of God: let him be anathema.
This was less to specifically anathematize either Evolution or Creationism than to anathematize
- Materialism - the belief that Material is all that there is.
- Pantheism - that God and the Universe are One.
- Dualism - that God is not the sole creator, because all Matter is erroneously held to be evil.
These are erroneous conclusions that may be drawn from straying too far from Revealed Truth. Revealed Truth sets the limits for right reason, to keep man from going off into nonsense, or even into evil.
